Notes |
- Donald Stewart Constable:
Donald was the first son of Arthur and Dorothy Wright Constable. Donald's mother died when he was 13 months old and his brother, Harold was 2 weeks old. Donald was then taken in by his grandparents, Amy and Horace Constable and he lived with them until he was about 4 years old. Harold, as an infant was adopted by the Marsh family in Boston.
Donald enjoyed a very loving and happy life with his grandparents, but was reunited with his father and step-mother Gladys. Arthur and Gladys had 2 sons , Arthur, Jr. and Frederick and then they adopted Joseph and Carmel.
Donald immigrated to the US when he was about 15 and lived with his Uncle George Constable who owned a chicken farm. "Eddie" needed more help to run his growing chicken business and so he hired his nephew Donald to help out along with " Butch"- George Edward II, another nephew.
Soon, World War II started and Donald enlisted in the US Army. He served with General Patten in the 745th Tank Battalion, Company "3". Tec 4 Constable saw much action in France, Belgium and Germany. He met Christine Gibbs, who was in the Royal Forces in London, England. She came to US after the war to marry Donald, but they divorced.
Donald married Vivian Hardy and they had a lovely family of 3 sons and 1 daughter. Donald continued to work for his uncle in the poultry business in Unity, Maine becoming a grower and plant manager of Constable Hatcheries, Inc. The hatcheries were sold during the later part of 1958 and Donald went on to work for Penobscot Poultry Co. in Belfast, Maine until his stroke.
Donald had a stroke at a very early age and was handicapped the rest of his life. He was very unhappy with his limitations after his stroke and full recovery was never realized. He died at the age of 60.
