Notes |
- Florine Lang was born Regina Amelia Lang in Somerville, Massachusetts to Amelia Ducker and George Lang. She was named after her grandmother, Regina Ducker. However, it was too painful for her mother to call her Regina as her mother had died shortly before "Florine " was born. So, my grandmother renamed her Florine Margaretha after her beloved sister-in-law Florine Ducker and Margaretha was the name of her father's mother still in Germany. Florine name was not legally changed From Regina Amelia to Florine until 1939.
Florine worked at S S Pierce & Company in Boston as a Seventeen dollar a week secretary.
She met "Eddie" and they were married in Sept 1930.
Florine continued to work after she was married and sent money to Eddie every week after they bought their farm in Maine- She worked and sent him $5.00 a week to live on, buy groceries and supplies.
At times they didn't know where their next meal was coming from- They wrote daily letters telling about their lives apart- these letters were written for 6 months until Florine joined Eddie on April 15, 1933.
Most of the letters have been preserved and are a great source of early farm life in rural Maine.
Florine enjoyed her family, travelling, gardening and playing the organ.
