  • Notes
    • Frances Foord was born in Ringmer, Sussex. She was the first daughter of ten children born to Isaac and ElizabethFielder Foord. It is interesting to note that Isaac was associated with the vicar, John Constable and his wife Frances. I am assuming because of this relationship that Elizabeth and Isaac named their daughter Frances after Frances Constable. Also, when Frances was married to James Penfold in Patcham she was living at the vicarage in Patcham. There was no vicar serving Patcham at that time and John Constable's signature is seen on many of the marriage banns at that time. It is assumed that John Constable served at that parish in times when they had no vicar.
I am also assuming because of the relationship of the Constables and Foord in Ringmer that Vicar John Constable saw to it that Fanny had a good job and helped her relocate to Patcham. It was there that she met and married James Penfold, who was a wheelwright- Fanny kept in contact with her family in Ringmer because on the census records it is seen that she had a nephew living with them and he was from Ringmer. There were clusters of Foord's and Penfold on all the census records of Brighton and Patcham showing that they were a close knit family.

James was a Wheelwright and living at the vicarage in Patcham when he married
      Frances Foord of Ringmer.
They were living there when their first three children were born.
They are in the 1841, 1851, 1861 census of Brighton.

Fanny Penfold died in, Brighton June 1867 age 77 , she was buried in a paupers grave lot number 38. No headstone- Aug.2005
